The Comme Des Garcons bump collection was very interesting. The kidney shaped padded pillows which were inserted into pockets of the garments created un-natural and interesting ‘bumps’. The collection not only was unusual and different it also lead to a collaboration between Rei Kawakubo and Merce Cunningham. Merce Cunningham is best known for his influence on the development of dance in the 20th century, specifically the modern avant garde dance movement in America.
“The dance borne of the collaboration is titled Scenario, and premiered in October 1997 at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, where the dancers’ movements took place against a stark all-white stage, lit with fluorescent lighting to the contemplative repetitive music of Takehisa Kosugi and Thurston Moore.
